Soilsiú │ Enlightenment

GSoI International Symposium 2015

While we are all conscious that 2015 has been declared the Year of Irish Design, it has also been dedicated as the International Year of Light by the United Nations. Light technology has revolutionized medicine, opened up international communication and continues to be central to linking cultural, economic and political aspects of global society. Glass, throughout history, has been intrinsically linked with light. The special relationship between them has allowed for enormous scientific and artistic development.

Soilsiú will explore the space where

design, light and glass intersect.

The artists, designers and craftspeople who will be taking part in Soilsiú all use this transformative power in inventive ways; appropriating the tradition of stained glass to tell the stories of today, using glass reflections to create images or constructing spaces which appear to be made from light itself. Soilsiú brings you strong contemporary glass which shines brightly and demands your attention.
